OurStory

Arturo products represents a 3+ year investment and Research and Development inside American Family Insurance.

We’re passionate about eliminating the complexity of extracting insights from ensemble data sets and specialize in being able to deliver accurate predictions in formats that are immediately useful inside our customer’s business systems.

Arturo is headquartered in Chicago, IL and has representation across North America to support both the Insurance and Re-Insurance Industry. Arturo has recently added to its locations a presence in Ottawa, Canada.

Leadership

  • Greg Oslan
    CEO
    Greg has a proven track record of leading high-growth businesses from inception through exit in the artificial intelligence/machine learning, cybersecurity, and information technology markets.  He’s raised hundreds of millions of capital from a variety of venture, private equity, and debt sources, and he has been instrumental in various government initiatives. Prior to joining Arturo, he has served as Chairman and/or CEO of multiple companies including Narus, Fixmo, Risksense, and Wireless online. In addition, he led the commercial efforts in standing up both the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) in Silicon Valley and the Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC) at the Pentagon. He currently serves on the board of directors of the National Cyber Security Center, Atreides, Inc and multiple advisory Boards. Greg received his MBA from Northwestern’s J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management and his Bachelor of Science from Indiana University.

    VP of Sales
    Joe is an accomplished team leader and business development executive with over 25 years rooted in geospatial technology with a heavy emphasis on enterprise data and analytics solutions for the Insurtech/Fintech space. He considers himself a patron of the arts with an affinity for live music (especially Blues) and theater, and centers his non-work life around his family.
  • Mehrshad Setayesh
    SVP, Engineering
    Mehrshad has joined Arturo with a solid track record of building highly efficient teams constructing horizontally scalable platforms merging big data, advanced AI analytics, and SaaS applications. Mehrshad has 20+ years expertise in building software start-up teams acquired by Fortune-500 entities, then tasked with expansion to global SaaS cloud-based footprints, enabling exponential revenue growth. He is a C-Suite technology servant leader with a passion for employing transparency, trust, empathy, and accountability to build tightly knit efficient, cross-functional global agile teams. Mehrshad has a strong commitment to solving complex business challenges through B2B and B2C applications on top of batch and streaming architectures via latest advanced cloud concepts. Mehrshad’s track record includes building and selling two back-to-back successful start-ups acquired by Oracle (2012) and Softheon (2022). 
  • Nafeh Etemadi
    CFO
    Nafeh is an experienced strategic, financial, and operational business leader with over 25 years experience in developing scalable financial reporting policies and procedures for start-ups, global private and publicly held organizations in insurance, biotech, and technology industries.  She enjoys team building and leading finance teams through complexity of change; she has successfully built multiple  dynamic global financial teams and shared services in local and international markets. Nafeh’s expertise is mainly  in mergers and acquisitions, financial systems optimization,  statutory and GAAP audit compliance, and technical accounting. 
  • Tachi Rivera
    Head of Product
    Tachi Rivera is the head of product at Arturo. Tachi is an engineer, technologist, and product manager who believes adaptability is one of the most important traits to have when working in the tech sector. With a proven track record of leading product development teams in building products that generate long term value, Tachi drives Arturo's roadmap and product strategy. Tachi has a noble dog, a curious kiddo, and a loving spouse who all share a passion for truly excellent food and even better company.

  • Joseph Gates
    Chief Risk Officer, American Family Insurance
    Joseph Gates is the Chief Risk Officer for American Family Enterprise Companies. In this role, he has executive leadership for the Enterprise Risk Management division and responsibility for the strategic leadership of all risk management and loss reserving functions for the property and casualty insurance operations including: Enterprise Risk Analysis and Insights, Business Continuity, Corporate Insurance, Capital Management, Loss Reserving and Catastrophe Management. The division is responsible for the definition, execution and governance of the risk framework; risk appetite and tolerance; risk management and reporting; group capital assessment and stress testing; and catastrophe management for American Family. In his prior role, operating as American Family’s Enterprise Catastrophe Management Director, he was responsible for the enterprise-wide catastrophe risk strategy. Prior to joining American Family, Joseph was the Vice President of Catastrophe Management at Homesite Insurance Group in Boston, MA and was the Head of Global Modeling at Allianz Global Corporate; Specialty in Chicago, IL and Munich, Germany. Joseph has a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Saint John University in Collegeville, MN and is a member of the North American CRO Council. Joe and his wife Sharon, live in Waunakee with their two daughters.
  • Marty Smuin
    Chief Operating Officer, Weave
    Marty Smuin currently serves as the COO of Weave Communications, and has more than 25 years of management experience focusing primarily on GTM strategy and execution, including business and corporate development, sales and marketing, operations and support; spending much of that time in senior executive roles. His industry experience ranges from wireless telecommunications, storage management and application software, super computing, aerospace, media and ecommerce. Much of Marty’s experience has been gleaned in the international business arena, amassing considerable experience in opening, and expanding market share throughout EMEA and APAC. Marty has also worked extensively with start-ups from concept to exit and has helped raise tens of millions of dollars from angel investors, VC’s and private equity firms. Marty has consistently exceeded expectations and specializes in strategy, execution and the development of highly effective teams.
  • Samantha Wang
    Co-Founder & General Partner, RPS Ventures
    Samantha Wang is a co-founder and General Partner at RPS Ventures. Prior to founding RPS, Samantha was a Partner at Crosslink Capital, an early-stage venture firm based in Silicon Valley. Before joining Crosslink, Samantha spent 10+ years as a marketing executive, and was most recently ran International Operations & Marketing at LegalZoom, the leading provider of online legal services. Earlier in her career, Samantha was a venture investor at 3i Group, and an investment banker at Deutsche Bank. Samantha holds a B.A. in Economics from Stanford University.
  • Sunir Kapoor
    Operating Partner, Atlantic Bridge Capital
    Sunir has lived and worked in the technology industry in Europe and the US for over 30 years and is currently serving as an Independent Director on the board of BBVA (NYSE:BBVA), where he created their Technology & Cybersecurity Committee for board governance. Sunir is also currently an Operating Partner at Atlantic Bridge Capital, a transatlantic venture capital firm in Silicon Valley, with over $1.5B in assets under management. Sunir is an advisor and board member to industry defining companies such as Vectra and Stratio, as well as having led investments in companies with innovative technology such as Devo, helping them develop and disrupt legacy markets. Sunir was the CEO of UBmatrix the creator of eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL), now the standard for business information exchange. The standard has revolutionized the regulatory reporting of financial information and risk globally. UBmatrix, the leading software company in this market was acquired by R.R. Donnelley (NASDAQ:RRD). Sunir was a founder of Cassatt, an early cloud computing pioneer, which fueled the emergence of SaaS and was acquired by Computer Associates. Sunir was also co-founder and CEO of E-Stamp. He is credited with inventing the market and technology for Internet postage and payment, leading E-Stamp Corporation to a successful IPO. In his career, Sunir has held senior management positions at Oracle, Microsoft and at Novell in Silicon Valley, Seattle, Paris, Frankfurt and London. He also has had various engineering roles at the European Space Agency and Honeywell. Sunir holds a BS Honors Degree in Physics from the University of Birmingham, and an MS in Computer Systems from the Cranfield Institute of Technology, both in the UK, and resides in Silicon Valley, California.

    Founder & CEO, Alluvium
    Drew Conway is a prominent data scientist, entrepreneur, author, and speaker. He’s built companies and has advised and consulted across many industries, ranging from fledgling startups to Fortune 100 companies, as well as academic institutions and government agencies at all levels. Drew is currently a Senior Vice President at Two Sigma, where he leads the development of new data-driven initiatives at the firm.
  • Marty Buchheim
    Director of Data Science & Analytics Lab, American Family Insurance
    Marty is director of the Data Science & Analytics Lab at American Family Insurance. In this role, Marty is charged with melding new and existing data sources with artificial intelligence, machine learning, and other new technologies to drive insurance value and transformation. His team’s most significant accomplishments include the use of natural language processing to uncover a $100M+ reinsurance opportunity and work on the creation of an American Family Insurance-affiliated online small business insurer. Marty also led the creation and spin out of Arturo.ai, a deep learning startup that uses image recognition for insurance and other applications in commercial and residential property. Prior to his tenure at American Family, Marty worked in the strategy consulting practice of IBM’s Global Business Services unit. With IBM, Marty consulted on technology and other strategies with large companies across a wide range of industries, both within the. U.S. and internationally. Marty began his career as a commodity and weather research and modeling manager for global consumer products manufacturer Mars, Inc. During his time with Mars, Marty developed climate, crop yield, and commodity price forecasts for the diverse mix of agricultural raw materials that Mars purchased. Marty has an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Photogrammetric Engineering and Remote Sensing from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, an MBA in Strategy and Finance from the University of Chicago, and a B.A. in Biology from Wartburg College.
